The Relationship Resource Network (RRN) was established in
2007 with the goal of serving as a "first stop" on the Internet for
couples seeking information and resources to build strong and
satisfying relationships.

The RRN grew out of the research and clinical practice of Dr. Christine E. Murray,
who is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional
Counselor in North Carolina. She is also the Coordinator of the Couple and
Family Counseling track and an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Counseling and Educational Development at The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro. You can read more about Dr. Murray's background by
clicking here.

The purpose of the RRN is
not to tell you the "right" way to live your life or to
be in your relationship with your partner. We believe strongly that there are
many ways to have satisfying, healthy relationships, and that positive
relationships are good for everyone -- regardless of age, life stage,
socioeconomic background, religion, education level, relationship status, sexual
orientation, and ethnic background.

What this site
is designed to do is to help you to develop and mobilize the
types of resources that can be useful in building and maintaining a strong
relationship with your partner. These resources may be personal (such as self-
esteem and self-awareness), relational (including knowledge about your partner
and relationship skills), and contextual (such as friends, extended family
members, and professional helpers).

In a study of over 1,100 adults involved in monogamous intimate
relationships*, Dr. Murray found that higher levels of personal, relationship, and
contextual resources were associated with greater relationship satisfaction and
self-esteem among the participants in the study. You can learn more about
each of these types of relationship resources in the "Relationship Information"
section of this site.

With the above background in mind, the main goals of the RRN are as follows:

  • To promote relationship resources relevant to couples at various
    stages of life

  • To provide information about the different types of relationship
    resources: individual, relationship, and contextual

  • To inform interested individuals and couples how to find a qualified
    professional counselor

  • To present models of healthy relationships through the "Real Life
Love Stories" section of the web-site

  • To link visitors to the RRN to other sites that offer supportive
    resources to couples

We hope that you find the RRN to be useful to you in your relationship. We
welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have, which you can provide
through the "Contact Us" section.
