Dr. Christine E. Murray
Founder of the Relationship Resource Network
Dr. Christine E. Murray is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the
Couple and Family Counseling Track in the Department of Counseling and
Educational Development at The University of North Carolina at
Greensboro. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in North Carolina, as well as a
National Certified Counselor (NCC).
Educational and Professional Background
Dr. Murray earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of
Florida, where she also completed her M.Ed. and Ed.S. in Marriage and
Family Counseling. She completed her undergraduate education at Duke
University, where she majored in Psychology and Sociology.
In addition to the professional licenses listed above, she holds
memberships in the following professional organizations: the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (Clinical Member), the
American Counseling Association, the International Association of Marriage
and Family Counselors, the Association for Counselor Education and
Supervision, and the National Council on Family Relations.
Teaching and Counseling Background
The courses that Dr. Murray has taught include the following: Family
Violence, Sexuality Counseling, Introduction to Family Counseling, and
Stress and Anxiety Management. She has also provided clinical supervision
to counseling students completing their internships.
Dr. Murray has provided counseling to individuals, couples, and families in
a wide range of settings. These include community mental health agencies,
schools, and churches.
Research and Writing Background
Dr. Murray's first book, Just Engaged: Prepare for Your Marriage before
You Say "I Do," was published by Adams Media in February 2008. This
book was written to offer practical guidance to help engaged couples build
realistic, positive expectations for marriage and develop strategies for
creating a satisfying partnership.
In the scholarly realm, Dr. Murray has published or written forthcoming
articles in such publications as the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy,
Contemporary Family Therapy, The Journal of Couple and Relationship
Therapy, The Journal of Counseling and Development, The Family
Journal, and The Journal of GLBT Issues in Counseling.
Dr. Murray's primary research interests relate to the role of resources in
couple relationships and intimate partner violence. Regarding the former,
she developed the Couples Resource Map Scales, an interactive on-line
relationship assessment. Regarding her research on intimate partner
violence, she has worked on research related to relationship violence
among college students, community residents, and the GLBT population.
Personal Background
Dr. Murray is married and has one child. She is married to Dr. Tom Murray,
who is also an LMFT and LPC and who is the Director of Counseling and
Disability Services at the North Carolina School of the Arts in
Winston-Salem, N.C.
