| Personal Resource: Coping Skills Coping skills are strategies that an individual can use to manage and resolve problems in life and relationships. Coping skills serve as a significant relationship resource by helping people through difficult situations that arise in the course of their relationships. Strategies for increasing your coping skills 1. When you are faced with a problem, try to manage it directly—don’t ignore it or attempt to deny its existence. 2. Be patient when faced with a problem—sometimes effective solutions take time. 3. Consider multiple possible solutions to any given problem. 4. Remain flexible and willing to try a different solution if your initial strategy doesn’t work 5. Be creative, and think outside the box to develop new ideas for managing problems. |
