| Personal Resource: Values A person’s values reflect the aspects of life that are most and least important to him or her. Examples of values include success, the environment, family relationships, and physical wellness. Clear values allow a person to prioritize various aspects of life and make decisions based on those priorities. Values serve as a relationship resource when they are consistent with the needs of the relationship. Strategies for increasing your resources from your values 1. Take time to reflect on the values that are most important to you. 2. Ask yourself: To what extent is the way I live my life consistent with the values that are most important to me? 3. Make efforts to prioritize your value for a healthy relationship with your partner. 4. Seek out relationships with others who share similar values with you. 5. Talk with your partner to identify the core values you share. Discuss how you can build your relationship upon the foundation of those shared values. |
